President Jarvis Jackson

Jarvis

Jarvis Jackson is a 2006 graduate of Old Dominion University who has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with emphasis in Information Systems and Technology.  He became an active member in the Black Alumni Chapter less than a year out of school by being elected Vice President in April 2007.

Currently, Jarvis resides in Woodbridge, VA and is contracting at the Department of the Army as the Deputy Program Manager with NCI Information Systems, Inc.  His team oversees all network activity, server administration, and configuration management for the PEO-EIS organization.

Jarvis is a member of Fort Washington (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  He is also a member of Alpha Kappa Psi: Professional Business Fraternity.  As a member of both organizations he partakes in many community service and scholarship type activities.  He is also the assistant spring/summer league basketball coach for South County Secondary School.

 
 
Vice President Ravenn Gethers
Class of 2002 & 2004  

RGethersRavenn was born in Santa Maria, CA and raised in Yorktown, VA. She is a two-time graduate of Old Dominion University (ODU), having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science and a Master of Science in Education degree with a concentration in Sport Management.

Ravenn has had the pleasure of working for the Walt Disney Company for over 4 years at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL. She began her tenure as a Sport Event Programming & Management intern with Disney Sports & Recreation in 2003. Upon separating from the company in 2008, she held the position of Senior Sports Manager at Disney Sports Attractions. The Sports Attractions division of the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort is charged with creating and implementing exhilarating sporting experiences for athletes of all ages. In her role, Ravenn was responsible for programming and planning amateur sports events for the Education and National Organizations Accounts Team, including events such as the MEAC Spring Championships and Disney’s Martial Arts Festival. In a desire to relocate to the Hampton Roads area, in 2008, Ravenn accepted the position of Director of Facility Operations at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, VA. The Boo Williams Sportsplex provides a 135,000 square foot, $13.5 million facility for a wide range of indoor youth sports, including basketball, volleyball, track and field, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, gymnastics and many other youth sports and activities.

After the successful opening the facility, this past fall, she transitioned into the role of Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation at Hampton University in Hampton, VA. Ravenn currently serves on college and departmental committees, advises undergraduate students and teaches courses in health, physical education, recreation and sport management.

She is a member of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), the Virginia Association of Health Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (VAHPERD) and the Washington, DC Chapter of the National Association of Black Sports Professionals (NABSP). Ravenn is passionate about inspiring youth.

In her spare time, she serves as mentor and guest speaker to students interested in pursuing a career within the sport management industry. She served as the keynote speaker for the 2005 CIAA Volleyball Championship Luncheon in Research Triangle Park, NC. Ravenn is currently serving as a planning committee member for the Addison Family Reunion, which will be held in Williamsburg, VA in July 2010. She resides in Yorktown, Virginia and is a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hampton, VA.

 
 
Secretary/Treasurer Rachel Perry
Class of  2007  

Sandi

Rachel N. Perry, class of 2007, is a whirlwind of creativity and determination. A native of Portsmouth, VA, Rachel spent her collegiate career exploring many fields before pursuing her true calling in Communication, focusing on Public Relations.

She was quite active on campus as a WODU Radio personality, 2003-2004 Black Student Alliance Executive Board member, and Student Activities Council member. After much hard work, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with a minor in English.

Since graduating Ms. Perry has pursued a career in non-profit, serving as an Account Manager for the United Way of South Hampton Roads in their annual fundraising campaigns during the 2007 and 2008 campaign seasons.

Rachel is a member of New St. Thomas Baptist Church and spends much time giving back to her community through the various outreach ministries there. She is also a songwriter and arranger for Unique Productions. Her passions include photography, writing, and event planning.

 
 
At-large Board Member Sherry Ferebee
Class of 2008  

Sherry is a 2008 graduate of Old Dominion University, holding a B.S. in Psychology.  She held won a full-time job, cared for an ill family member, managed her coursework, and made the dean's list all at the same time.

She currrently works as VP of Operations for Profesional Transport Services, LLC.  She anticipates starting on her MBA shortly; she plans to concentrate in Human Respurces Management.

At ODU she was a member of the Black Student Alliance, the Student Advisory Committee, and participated in the 2004 campus Million Women's March.

 
 
At-large Board Member  Jacqueline Greeley
Class of 2004  

Jacqueline was born and raised in California and Virginia.   She graduated from Old Dominion University in 2004 with a Bachelors in Human Services Counseling and am currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration.  She has over seven years of administrative experience in nonprofits and higher education.  She has been a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc since 2002, a committee member of the African American Community Health Advisory Committee, and a host of other volunteer outlets.  Jacqueline enjoys reading, dancing, and lying on the beach.

Jacqueline was a chapter member of the Theta Chi chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho.  She was a resident assistant for two years; one of those years as the first RA for University Village.  University activities also included the Human Services Counseling Association, peer counselor of the Student Health Center, and the Multicultural Student Center.

Jacqueline agrees with BAC's mission, enjoy connecting and networking with ODU alumni, has strong communication and administrative skills, and strong interpersonal skills.  Her experience in the higher education field will allow her to be creative in providing resources to the students at ODU.

Michelle

Michelle Shands is a 1994 graduate of Old Dominion University who holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
 
Fourteen years ago she began her career in human resources management and is currently employed with the Personal Care Products Council as director, human resources.
 
Michelle is an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Bryans Road, Maryland where she serves as a Missionary. She also serves as the VP Membership for the DC chapter of SHRM.

Jodi

Jodi M. Slaughter is a 2003 graduate of Old Dominion University who holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services Counseling, with a minor in Psychology. While attending ODU, Jodi was active with Ebony Impact, and Women’s Leadership Studies. In 2008, Jodi graduated from Regent University with a Master of Arts in Community Counseling. While at Regent University, Jodi served as the Student Circle Secretary for the Association of Black Psychologist as well as a Praise and Worship leader for the university.  Currently, Jodi works as an In-home worker for a local agency in Norfolk. Jodi also conducts and facilitates workshops and conferences that address concerns for teenaged girls, women and parents within the community.

Jodi believes in giving back to the community and runs character education groups for girls in local elementary schools. Jodi is a member of the Association of Black Psychologists and Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic & Professional Society International. In the fall, Jodi will be going back to school to pursue a PhD in Education with a concentration in Counseling.

 
 
Past-President Maxine Graves Somerville

Maxine

Maxine Graves Somerville is a 1985 Old Dominion University graduate who holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She has long been actively involved with the Black Alumni Council, having served two terms as Washington, DC Regional Representatives, two terms as Second Vice President, and two terms are President.
 
Maxine is a member of the Old Dominion University Alumni Association Board of Directors where she is currently serving a four year term. She previously served a one year term on the ODUAA Board of Directors for 2003-2004.
Currently, Maxine serves as the Senior Director of Administration and Human Resources for the United Nations Foundation, an organization founded by media mogul Ted Turner. In addition to her degree from Old Dominion, she holds a Master's of Public Administration from The George Washington University
 
A certified human resources professional, she earned the SPHR designation in January 2008. She previously held the designation of PHR which she earned in May 2003. Maxine is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, the Society of Human Resource Management, the National Association of Professional Women, the League of Black Women, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Gamma, and Phi Alpha Alpha.  She previously served on the Charles County Commission for Women, a political appointed position and an organization whose mission is to promote and focus on concerns for women living in Charles County, Maryland. She has also served as Upward coach for girls’ basketball and cheerleading, a Christian based athletic program for youth from  2002 to 2006. Maxine’s other volunteer experience included Big Brother and Big Sister, Cub Scouts of America, and the local high school PTSO where she served as 11th Grade Vice President 2008-2009 and was elected to serve in an at-large position with the PTSO through the 2010 school year.
 
 
Atlanta Rep Sandi Holly Starr

Sandi

Sandra Holly Starr (Sandi) is a 1985 Old Dominion University graduate who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Statistics.   She also holds a Master’s Degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Maryland, College Park, and two Master’s Degrees from DeVry University in Project Management and Network & Communications Management.


Sandi has twenty years of telecommunication experience with AT&T Communications serving in many capacities including Account Owner, System Analyst, Process Engineer, Executive Assistant, and Data Network Provisioning and Maintenance Manager.  She was a presenter at the 1997 AT&T Data Users Conference.  Sandi currently manages a team of data network engineers for AT&Ts flagship product MIS(IP).


A resident of Decatur, Georgia for eleven years, Sandi moved to Atlanta in 1996 to assist with the 1996 Olympic Network and fell in love with the southern hospitality and the warm weather of the south.   She has served on the Board of Directors for Clifton Springs Community Neighborhood Association.  Chairperson for the Smith Famiy Reunion with an attendance of 400 family members.  She also hosted the Smith Family Reunion in Atlanta, GA.  Sandi is married to her husband of five years, an Atlanta native, Gregory Starr. 


Her personal statement includes the theory of living by the Make Myself Happy Law, in making herself happy, she is a member of Greenforest Community Baptist Church in Decatur, Ga.  She assist with the weekly Feed The Homeless, Task Force for the establishment of GEMS (Greenforest Entrepreneurs Ministry Servants),  Teen Conference Chairperson, and York Person for Deacon Williams Family Ministry.


Sandi is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., having pledged at Old Dominion University.


Sandi is an entrepreneur with two companies 2Ts Traveling Techspertise, Inc. and Holly Property Management, LLC.

 
 
Atlanta Rep Della Thomas

Della

Della Thomas is a native of Lynchburg, VA. She graduated from Old Dominion University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services Counseling. Upon graduation, Della continued her studies at Norfolk State University. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1991.


Looking for a change of scenery, Della relocated from Virginia Beach to Atlanta, Georgia in 1993. She completed the requirements to become a licensed clinical social worker. Della has worked in various aspects of healthcare and human services over the last twenty years. She is currently employed as a contract employee for the Department of Juvenile Justice in Atlanta. Della is also very active as an adoption professional in the metropolitan Atlanta community. 


Della returned to school in 2003 to obtain a degree in business administration. She graduated from The University of Phoenix Atlanta Campus with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Global Management in 2005.


Della pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated at Old Dominion University. She is currently active in the Rho Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha where she serves on the health, sisterhood and Black Family committees. Della is a member of the Atlanta chapter of the National Black MBA Association. She is also very active in her homeowner’s association where she serves as Architectural Control Officer.

Lynn

Lynn Bremby is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia.  I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health (part of the Biology Department) in 1988. 


I have been employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia in the field Environmental Health since 1989.  I moved to Alexandria Virginia in 1992 and began working with Alexandria Health Department where I am still currently employed. 


I am an active member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church Usher Board.  Some of my hobbies include traveling, playing softball, reading and watching movies.

Correy HudsonBAC welcomes Correy Hudson to Old Dominion University, to the Alumni Office, and as our liason to the university.


Correy Hudson joins Old Dominion after a two year period with the Peninsula Division of Big Brothers, Big Sisters. After graduating from Hampton University in 2006 with a BA in Advertising, Correy served as the Marketing/Public Relations Assistant, and later as the Community Relations Manager with BBBS, managing events such as their golf tournament and wine tasting, agency recruitment and community outreach.
